My girls

Some days are never-ending. Sometimes it seems as though there is always at least one person in this house crying. Someone is ALWAYS hungry. My life revolves around the defecation schedules of others and without fail, I forget something whenever we leave the house. But then there are evenings like this one. Sprinkler on, clothes soaked, everyone tired but happy. And Talie starts singing "So Long, Farewell" from The Sound of Music. My heart could have burst.

Brown, green, and blue!
A few recent and not-so-recent funny and/or notable things:

  • Talie fell down and told me she bonked her mustache.
  • T is very matter-of-fact about death. Particularly about Scout's death. She told me that on the first day of school, she is going to tell her teachers that her puppy died. This has been going on for months. She just randomly mentions the fact that we don't have any pets because our dog died -- she tells random strangers, friends, me. She was SUPER upset about something random this summer and spiraled into "I MISS DADDY WHEN HE IS AT WORK! AND MY SCOUT PUPPY DIED!" It is heartbreaking.
  • This spring we were inundated with caterpillars -- it was awful. They ate up all the leaves and were pooping all over EVERYTHING. I brought an umbrella to the bus stop. THEN, we had them sprayed because seriously, it looked like November out there -- no leaves at all, and it started RAINING CATERPILLARS. It was out of a horror movie. The cute thing though, was that Talie called them "calipidders."
  • Talie was an early riser for a while there but she can't tell time yet so we got her a little clock to let her know when she can come out of her room. Now she comes in and whisper-announces: "My tock turned DEEN!"
  • Most of her Cs are Ts or Ds. Oh and she adds and extra -ed to a lot of things like "I poopeded on the potty" and "The store is closeded."
  • She was rolling rocks and shells down a chaise lounge at the beach and goes: "bye bye ... forEVAH ..."
  • These girls are all showing the physical signs of a great summer -- Elliott was in the shower and told me she looks like she is still wearing a bathing suit! I swear she is lathered in sunscreen, but she is BROWN! Both of them have bruised shins and scraped knees from lots of outdoor fun -- Elliott has a bruised head from a botched back flip in the shallow end of the pool -- I think she was working on her synchronized swimming routine she's been choreographing for her and Isa.
  • Mark the date: Quinn laughed on August 27.
  • I don't even want to say anything about it but I will: Quinn is a great sleeper. She's only up once or twice a night and only for 4 minutes at a time. I think there was only one night where she wanted to party at 2am and maybe one other night when I woke Jason up to help me because I just couldn't nurse her to sleep. Our roof STILL isn't fixed so she's still in with us but once the construction is done, we will be able to move everyone back to where they belong and hopefully get a full night's sleep or two ... Maybe ...

Elliott, age 7

HOW DID SEVEN YEARS GO BY SO FAST? This kid. She's one-of-a-kind. I love that she "gets" Jas' sense of humor -- I am less thrilled that she has inherited it because now I have TWO jokesters in the house who won't ever give me a straight answer! She pours through books and loves super heros. For her birthday, she asked for shopkins (duh), a ballet bar (she and Jas are going to build one), and a new mattress (errr ... huh?). She's got an amazing imagination, a huge heart (especially when it comes to other people's little siblings), and a BILLION words. Our little drama queen loves to dance but refuses to wear dresses. She loves purple and will eat almost anything (except frosting) and is itching to get a new dog. She can't WAIT for school to start. Happy birthday, Bug. We love you.

August

This summer has been SO HOT. Not to wish my life away or say that it has been a total wash, but man oh man, I'm ready for fall. I've got 25 extra pounds and a sweaty baby attached to me at almost all times. Wrangling three kids is hard -- especially since Q can't wear sunscreen yet. We have been BUSY and I think the girls have had their fill of fun, sun, and swimming. But I'm tired now. :o) I think this was the only day of rain we had -- my garden is so limp and the grass is totally brown. The weeds are happy but my basil is fried. Feelin' hot hot hot!

Heading out to sing in the sprinkler "rain."

About a day later, this totally toppled over! The blooms were just too heavy!

Bumbo time! Q wins the award for baldest baby!

Best purchase of the year. I love my new umbrella! I'm such a lame suburban mom ...

TACO TUESDAY!

Tell me to quit my bitching about potty training, baby weight, loneliness, and sleep deprivation. This summer rocks.

Just a regular summer morning at Casa del Moensi

This kid is so sweet. She will drop anything and everything if she hears Quinn cry. She comes armed with pacifiers (which Q doesn't really like), toys, hugs, and high pitched sing-song.

T caught a bug and had a few narcoleptic naps. Poor thing.

My snuggle bunny

Team weeding.

Helpful big sisters!

Swimming every day makes for a SLEEPY Talie!

Elliott hit the movies with a friend one day -- she has quite the life.

Talie has been ... work. Re-potty training her has been ... work. Luckily, my village came through with great advice, commiseration, and wine-delivery! Thanks, Ann!

More post-swimming narcolepsy.

Jas went to see Pearl Jam at Fenway. He also did a boys weekend in Maine for Andrew's birthday but there is no photographic proof. There are go-pro videos of them fishing, boating, and rope jumping somewhere.  Sounds like they ate a lot of red meat and the only vegetable consumed was in the form of a bloody Mary. They all agreed that they played like boys but woke up tired and sore like old men. Ha!

Best babysitters ever! I can't believe we've known Hannah and Jillian since they were 1 and 4 years old! I was Jillian's age when I met their parents! WHA??

Sadly, I have sent much of my CSA box to the compost this summer.  I just haven't been able to keep up!

Womp.

Pool par-TAY!

No fear. Belly flops for hours!

Show me your mean face!

Swimming?

Some days I accomplish a lot around the house.  Other days, I take naps with this baby.

School starts tomorrow so I suppose we should soap the children ...

Party time!

Elliott decided she wanted a birthday party with funny games but only kids, not grownups. It was more work for Jason to wrangle all the kids on his own, but I think it was a success. Another SUPER hot day so we had them run in the sprinkler as much as possible!

Elliott organized introductions so everyone knew each other's names!

Ha! Sam got soaked! So did everyone else!

CJ and Finley rocking some push ups!

Talie crawling through legs!

Cooper had a head start but how funny are they all lying on their bellies?

These kids PUT DOWN BROWNIE TRIFLE in order to participate in the lettuce challenge game. HA!

Nonsensical goodie bag trading was a big hit!

Anasofia got the "selfie" plate in musical plates!
