November Stuff

Ahhhhh -- two months of blog updates done!  Phew.  That has been weighing on me.  Life is good.  Children are happy and healthy.  Husband is tall, dark, and handsome. Scout is still a dog.

Talie and I get a lot of QT these days.

Dinner party for 32?

Some days my job is super easy so I take pictures of it.

Library fun.

All Legos all the time.

Surprise! We're going to see Annie!  She thought it was a movie until the overture started!

So it isn't all sunshine and rainbows all the time.

Elliott has been working SO hard at school.  She likes to write my grocery list.  Eggs, steak, beef, cucumbers, eggs, berries, hot dog. Ha!

She really likes the stroller

So as you can see, I spend most of my time with Talie because Elliott is at school all day.  There have been several "Elliott-isms" of late that are worth documenting:

  • Elliott has been struggling a little with a "mean girl" on the playground at school.  Jas told her a story about when he was a little boy, there was a kid on the playground that he thought was mean but it turned out that she was just shy, and once they had a conversation, they became friends -- she even thought that Jas was the mean one!  She looked him straight in the eye and said: "Daddy, I don't know why you're telling me this story.  Your story has nothing to do with what I was telling you about. My girl is ACTUALLY mean."
  • One night, Jas explained the concept of rainwater and irrigation and other sciency things.  As he was leaving the room, she sweetly said: "Daddy?  Thank you for telling me about rainwater."
  • We had our first parent-teacher conference.  Her teacher asked: "So, does Elliott have any brothers?  Because she's been writing about them during Writer's Workshop and when we asked her if she had any brothers, she said, 'Um, two or three.'"  HA!
  • In kindergarten, they are working on personal narratives, where the kids write and illustrate a story that actually happened to them.  Her teacher showed us 7 or 8 of these and I kid you not, five of them were completely fabricated -- but they were all realistic and plausible!  Like, one was about playing hockey with her brothers and I was the coach.  One was about getting blue hair at Disney World. Another was about playing at the park with her brother. So funny.
  • During dinner, were were using conversation cards and the question was: would you rather learn how to ski, fish, or sail? Jas said he probably wouldn't use a boat very often and her jaw dropped, and she said: "Are you KIDDING me? I'm a HUGE fan of boats. I am a BOAT FAN."
  • Two favorite phonetic spelling attempts: FANKSGIVING and IDVACHER (adventure)

Fake XMas

I could NOT sleep last night.  It was like Christmas Eve -- Lauren arrived at midnight and surprised Matt and Lindsay (slash, spooked them -- Matt was sure a neighbor got dropped off at the wrong house and came downstairs to investigate), today was the brunch baby shower, family and friends were all around, and then the grownups got to go out to dinner and a movie! Oh, and it snowed so there is a pretty layer of pretty white snow on the ground!

Someone LOVES her Uncle Matt!

OK so winter might be fun this year ....

Talking to the baby!

Great Babsie is training a new generation of photographers!!

The girls crashed boys' night at hibachi!

A Very Flahuvan Shower

Who's excited about Baby Eyeball's February arrival?  ME!  I AM!

I look like I'm wearing a wig.

Eyeball cupcakes!!

Talie was VERY interested in unwrapping the gifts.  Apparently she was also interested in her own belly button?  I don't have any photos of Elliott because she was off with cousins and friends and we never saw her.  We could hear her (SO LOUD!) but we never saw her.

Nice hairclips.

Josh wins the award for most creatively wrapped.  It took several minutes, scissors, AND a swiss army knife to open his gift!

I think the final kid headcount was 18.  That's a LOT of kids.

Matt was a cute baby, huh?

Turkey Day

We were expecting 10 inches of snow here so we tried to head to Rockaway early to beat the storm ... just like everyone else in the state.  Arrrgh!  We ended up stopping at a motel (had to call around to find a dog-friendly room with two beds and a crib!).  Again, our girls are such great little travelers.  They slept in the car and transferred to the motel with no trouble at all.  We had a nice, extended visit with Nana, Papa Dan, and the fam. Things that made me smile: Kona coffee at the EXACT RIGHT TEMPERATURE courtesy of Dan and Kath, the Rockettes on TV, my 11th Sautner Thanksgiving, monkey bread, FaceTime with Matt and Lauren, Talie yelling "hatty too-tee day!," Elliott's imagination.

Coin toss with Grampsie

The host with the most!

Someone discovered Doritos ...

It is so strange to have a tiny human who looks like me ...

Bugs

Random, I know.  We had a crazy ladybug afternoon recently that I didn't get a picture of but Talie and I have been very interested in bugs recently.  Random.

Scout, the food hound, would NOT eat her dinner the other night.  SPIDER!
