Sunset

We adventured over to the west side of the island tonight. Packed some sandwiches and a blanket and tried to get out of the upcountry rain. It rained a bit but then it let up and we had a picnic. I didn't get any great shots, but it was a nice evening nonetheless. Stay tuned for more (read better) sunset shots in the future!

Holy Guacamole!

There are avocados you buy in a store ... and then there are avocados that grow in our neighbor's yard ... Guess which is which?

Not so mini afterall ...

So an update on that "mini" waterfall of ours: Scout and I went up there yesterday (sans camera sadly) and with all the rain we've had, it is now a huge rushing deluge with rapids and everything! Scout immediately jumped in and I attempted to pick my way across some (slippery) rocks ... yeah, I fell in. If it's not raining tomorrow, I'll go back with the camera. And a towel.

It has been raining a LOT here (stupid winter), but with rain and Hawaiian sun come RAINBOWS! A LOT of them. This is what Jason saw out his window yesterday afternoon.

Status is Green (again)

Reporting in from Mendon, MA: my dad's quintuple bypass surgery went well. He's home and somewhat comfortable -- I am Nurse Leah for the foreseeable future. Pinning sheets and making sandwiches is what I was born to do! More from Hawaii when I get back later in the month ...

If it's raining at home ... go south!

We were a little sad to see that it was raining upcountry today (boo hoo, I know) but we could see blue skies down by the south shore so we headed to Kihei and Makena.

No joke -- this is right behind our house (a short hike through the pineapple fields). There are rope swings and a really deep swimming pool. Yes please!

Rooster

So it's not all fun and games here in Hawaii ... We have a rooster next door that is on Eastern Standard Time and crows on the hour, every hour, starting at 3am Hawaii time. Other than that though ... it's all fun and games.

Look who figured out there are goldfish and delicious muddy lilly pads in the planters in the yard ... Bad dog!

Pineapple Hike

There were some severe storms here recently so the pineapple field behind the house is pretty muddy and has a bunch of eucalyptus trees down. It was still fun to hike through, though. We're going to go find the waterfall tomorrow with Jason. He's been stuck working while Scout and I are on vacation!
